July 27, 2017 -- As work continues on the I-85 widening project in Cabarrus County, the N.C. Department of Transportation will be closing bridges on Brantley Road and Centergrove Road starting on Tuesday, August 1, weather permitting.

Coordinating the closures of these bridges will help contractor Blythe Construction complete the widening portion of I-85 by late 2018. The contract calls for these bridges to be closed approximately 10 months.

NCDOT is working with local emergency services to maintain a crew on the Old Concord-Salisbury Road side of both bridges to ensure quicker response times during the closures.

The following detours will be posted:

Centergrove Road Detour:

Motorists east of I-85 will be detoured along Camp Julia Road, Old Salisbury-Concord Road, Lane Street, China Grove Road, Brantley Road and Midlake Avenue. Traffic west of I-85 will reverse this detour.

Brantley Road Detour:

Motorists east of I-85 will be detoured along Old Salisbury-Concord Road, Lane Street, and China Grove Road. Traffic west of I-85 will reverse this detour.

Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, follow posted detours, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.

The contract would provide funds for the staffing of an EMS unit on Lane Street for the duration of the simultaneous closure of Brantley Road and Centergrove Road. Further details are attached. An agreement was drafted by the County Attorney. Staff was awaiting the name of the contractor (Blythe), which will pay the County $19,164.24 monthly during this period. As a result, an EMS unit will be stationed at CMC-Kannapolis on Lane Street. Simultaneous closures of Brantley Road and Centergrove Road were expected to begin on or around July 1, 2017. Through a motion, the Board of Commissioners authorized the County Manager to finalize the details of the agreement and execute the final agreement.
